Ms. Eirini Cheila is a Professor of International Politics at the University of Piraeus, Department of International and European Studies, and a Visiting Scholar at George Washington University (Elliott School of International Affairs). She is a graduate of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, Law School of the University of Athens, holds a Master’s degree from Paris II University (Pantheon-Sorbonne) in International Studies, and a PhD in International Relations from Panteion University. She taught for 26 years (1993–2019) at Panteion University in the Department of International and European Studies.
She has served as Chair of the Department of International and European Studies at Panteion University, Scientific Director of the joint Master’s Program in “International and Strategic Studies” between Panteion University and the Hellenic National Defense College (HNDC), Vice President of the Board of the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), Deputy Director of the Institute of International Relations at Panteion University, and Member of the Board of Directors at the Institute of Defense Analyses.
She has been a Visiting Scholar at Virginia Tech University, Department of Political Science and International Affairs, Visiting Professor at Paris II University (Panthéon–Sorbonne), Stanley J. Seeger Visiting Fellow at Princeton University (1996–1997), Visiting Research Fellow at King’s College (1997–1998), and a DAAD Fellow at the Institute Wissenschaft und Politik (2007).
She has participated in conferences in Greece and abroad as a speaker and has delivered lectures at universities in the USA, Canada, and France on cutting-edge topics in international relations theory and contemporary global political issues.

Professor Cheila has authored numerous articles in scientific journals in Greece and abroad and monographs such as: “The United Nations in the Era of the Sole Superpower”, Athens, Sideris, 1999; “The Evolution of International Society: Timeless and Contemporary Aspects”, Athens, Herodotos, 2006; “International Conflicts in the 21st Century: Issues of Theory and Management”, Athens, Piotita, 2012. Two monographs are currently under preparation: “The International Community and ‘Fragile’ States: The Dilemmas of International Organization”, Athens, Piotita (forthcoming 2020); and “Issues of Greek Foreign Policy: Historical and Contemporary Aspects”, Athens, Piotita (forthcoming 2020).
She has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Panteion University, the University of Piraeus, the postgraduate program of the Hellenic National Defense College, and at Paris II University on topics such as:
